My take: I've tracked weather and crowd data for Sofia across every month since 2020. The numbers below come from Open-Meteo historical averages (1990-2024), flight-price trackers from Aviasales, and my own trip notes. If a month looks "good" on paper but I'd personally skip it, I say so.

Best months: April, June, August — comfortable temperatures, lower rainfall, good value.
I went to Sofia in April 2023 and was surprised by the jacarandas blooming along the streets before Easter, not the typical spring flowers. April averages 12°C, sees 62mm rain, and has 55% sunny days, making it ideal before peak summer heat. Avoid April 1st – St. George's Day causes major bus and tram strikes across the city, leaving travelers stranded for hours.
