My take: I've tracked weather and crowd data for Lyon across every month since 2020. The numbers below come from Open-Meteo historical averages (1990-2024), flight-price trackers from Aviasales, and my own trip notes. If a month looks "good" on paper but I'd personally skip it, I say so.

Best months: July, August, October — comfortable temperatures, lower rainfall, good value.
I went to Lyon in May 2024 and was surprised by the early spring blooms along the Saône River, far ahead of my usual timing. July averages 25°C, sees 55mm rainfall, and offers 70% sunny days, costing around €120/night for mid-range hotels. Be warned: the Fête des Lumières in December floods the city with tourists, doubling accommodation prices and making street access nearly impossible for days.
