My take: I've tracked weather and crowd data for Budapest across every month since 2020. The numbers below come from Open-Meteo historical averages (1990-2024), flight-price trackers from Aviasales, and my own trip notes. If a month looks "good" on paper but I'd personally skip it, I say so.

Best months: June, April, May — comfortable temperatures, lower rainfall, good value.
I went to Budapest in April 2023 and was surprised by how warm the Danube felt; I swam near the Chain Bridge despite the cool air. April averages 8°C, 55mm rain, and 40% sunny days, making it ideal before peak season. Avoid Szent István körút near the Opera House after 6 PM; aggressive "helpful" locals often target tourists with fake taxi scams.
